These Knotty Girlz mecate reins in white are made using New England Ropes 1/2" Braided Safety Blue. Although the name is deceiving, the rope is white in color, with a blue core. We also use CBKnot 1/2" Tree line in black. Both ropes are standard 16 strand climbing ropes. Both ropes are considered "non spliceable", meaning they rope cannot be put back into itself. This rope is used by many natural horse trainers, due to its great UV resistant properties and long life. Because the rope cannot be spliced, then ends are capped and poppers are then added. Length options of 18 to 24 feet available.

I have several lead ropes from KnottyGirlz at this point and I love them all! So I thought I’d try their mecate rein and I am very pleased. The tree line rope is substantial but has a great deal of “life” and “feel” that allows for clear communication with my horse. I use these reins with leather slobber straps and they hold well when attached properly (no sliding as with cheaper, slicker ropes.) I was particularly pleased using them this past week in the southern heat and humidity, they did not become slippery or boggy when my horse and I were sweating buckets and they dried quickly. I ordered the 22’ length for use as a true mecate (rein/lead combo) and this provides plenty of rein to allow my horse to reach down and stretch (or graze) and for a good deal of lead rope to coil onto my saddle. The leather popper ends are thick but very soft and supple - no cheap shortcuts on these gorgeous reins! I’ve used them daily since I received my order and can’t find a single thing to complain about. Thanks again KnottyGirlz for another top flight product!

1/2" treeline mecate reins are exactly what I expected: great feel & response. I am looking forward to years ahead using this piece of equipment: great functionality, incredible durability, and stylish with the pineapple horsehair tassel. Thank-you Knotty Girlz!

Nice mecate, great feel, right weight and life to it. My only concern is it is a bit slick. Slicker than other treeline I have. New it will slip a bit when holding your rope and reins in your hand to rope. Hopefully that will break in, at which time I'll give it 5 stars.
Not to slick for riding, doesn't go through your hand. Just slips against itself in the coil with your rope/lariat.

I love this product. It is hard to find tree line rope without spending a fortune!

I've had mecates out of many different materials, and the ones I like the best for feel and thickness are the treeline. I was wanting one to give for a gift, and the ones from Knotty Girlz were exactly what I was looking for. I love that there is a choice of lengths too because this is for a small horse!

I have been looking for some reins that have a nice feel to them and these are perfect! Would recommend them to anyone looking for something to communicate with their horse, you can have a beautiful conversation with these reins. I bought 2 x 10ft loop reins, 1 x 12ft loop rein, and 2 x 18ft mecates. They obviously are perfect for groundwork as well offering that same subtle feel. Thank you knotty girlz for suppling this product!

Excellent feel for ground work and general leading . I purchased the 16 foot with 2 leather poppers. I like a long lead for leading up free and giving us both our space and time to move. It is never in the way, doesn't kink, coils nicely. The weave is very tight and comfortable to hold. It has a bit of heft and weight to it so even when slack there is a small amount of feel there. Taking an inch of slack out is immediately picked up by the horse. It didn't stay white for long, but it took on a classic red clay patina that I'll take over a lesser rope that hides the dirt with dye.
